Mónica García

(Badajoz / Spain 1971)

Mónica García (Don Benito, Spain, 1971) is an architect and graduated from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. She earned a master’s degree (MArchII) from Harvard University and a PhD in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. She has worked in various architecture studios in France and founded García-Floquet arquitectos in Valencia, whose work was selected for the 10th and 11th Spanish Biennials of Architecture and Urbanism. She is a design professor at the Technical School of Architecture of Valencia, director of the seminar “Art, Architecture and Urban Context,” and has been a guest critic at IE University and the European University of Madrid. Her research focuses on experimental architecture in Spain from the 1960s to the present.
García Floquet Arquitectos was founded in 2003 in Valencia, when Frédéric John Floquet and Mónica García decided to bring together their previous experiences and establish the foundations of a shared project. Their work engages with contemporary issues, focusing on the places and “constructed landscapes” that shape everyday life. Their design approach emphasizes an economy of means, which they consider the basis for a “sustainable” relationship with the environment.
Their work in France and Spain has focused primarily on public facilities (in the fields of education and healthcare) and collective housing. Their multi-family housing projects were selected for the 10th and 11th Spanish Biennials of Architecture and Urbanism.
