Arbois General Hospital

Arbois General Hospital - Jura (France) - Project in collaboration with Jacques Le Du and Christophe Widerski

2,900 m2 built

2005

Building nominated for the “Première Oeuvre” award and published in the 100 buildings of the year 2006 in amc magazine.

The extension and renovation project for the Arbois hospital required close attention to the architectural, urban, and functional qualities of the original building in order to propose a solution perfectly suited to it and meet the challenge of a unitary building. Analysis of the morphology of the plot and the location of the building led us to propose the following implementation strategy: the current north wing is extended southward to the Saint-Martin road, thus giving the main building a new cross-shaped typology.

The chapel thus acquires a greater degree of articulation within this new layout. Two other volumes revisit the non-orthogonal plot boundaries and, together with the first wing, form a general U-shaped morphology.

The complex creates a particularly symbolic interior space: the cloister. This space offers a pleasant working environment for the technical and administrative staff, and a calm and serene setting for the patients.
